April Leaves and Blossoms – my #treeyear

April has nearly gone and both of my trees are in full flower. Although I have cheated a little and have two trees I am enjoying the difference between the two of them.

The Lime Leaves are smaller and dainty. The let more light penetrate through them. I am still not sure whether my Lime is a Small-leaved or a common but already it is starting to drip resin onto the surrounding cars. As I don’t have a car this is not a problem for me!!

In comparison the Horse Chestnut leaves a huge fans, like the webbed feet of coots, they hang and have an almost regal air to them. Of course the flowers the stick up above the large drooping leaves. Beautiful tiaras of white flowers. Beneath the Horse Chestnut is all dappled shade, much darker and cooler than beneath the Lime.

Much has been happening beneath and on the tree this April, including bees and I have now counted at least 10 flowering plants grace the base of the trunks and the surrounding ground, especially in the ‘hurricane’ damage plot.
