Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) at Cacharel in the Camargue

Whinchats were everywhere in the Camargue. I encountered this one one evening on a track just north of Cacharel in the Camargue. Although we can see them in the UK theses birds are always a delight especially in the light of the South of France.

The bird was very accommodating, allowing me to get quite close. I suspect that he was slightly injured like the Wood warbler seen a few days before. But not so badly. I did see the bird two days later. So hopefully it will recover and head north to grace a field in Germany or even the UK.
