Alberta Birds – Fox Sparrow
by Dusty ~ July 8th, 2010. Filed under: Birdwatching etc.The magic (or the frustration) of birding in North America is the Sparrows. Subtle differences in colour and tone can make these a bit of a challenge to identify. However armed with my IBird pro application on the Iphone has proved a real bonus. What is that song coming from that bush? Have a guess and play the song and see if the little lbj will respond. Certainly this Fox Sparrow was very obliging from my point of view. From his point of view I am sure it was sheer frustration. Where is that impostor!
The Fox Sparrow scratch about in the scrub and bushes just below the treeline looking for insects and seeds. I love the sparrows because of the subtle differences in borwns and greys. This particular species as with many of its cousins, has a delightful song.
This particular male was very irate when I played my ibirdpro. High above Lake Louise in the Alberta Rockies, he fluttered around in the bushes seeking out his invisible rival!

Please don’t harass birds in the national parks. It’s against regulations to do so. Thanks.
