Burns – Hines – OR Driving to Malheur I was in awe of the flocks of Snow Geese just south of Burns. By the time I had located a flock on the ground the sun had been covered by a dark snow cloud.
Big open country – Eastern Oregon between Pendleton and La Grande.
Spent a pleasant late afternoon just south of La Grande – Oregon. This is big country – wheat and cattle fields in bowl surrounded by the Blue Mountains, covered in a dusting of snow. At the City Sewage farm, meadow larks bubbled their melodious call…
Last weekend spent an hour or tow at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in Calgary The Black-capped Chickadees were very accommodating. Got some great pictures.
Spent an afternoon on Sauvie Island, Oregon last weekend. Had great views of Osprey, Bald Eagle and Sandhill Cranes. Also good sparrow flocks including Orange-crowned, Lincoln’s and even 1 Swamp Sparrow. Best pictures were of a Peregrine, that at one point was heavily mobbed by a Hen [Northern] Harrier.
