Green Roof – Tower Bridge
by Dusty ~ September 5th, 2009. Filed under: Green Roof News.As part of tweehive day 3 and the Pestival I thought I would post a couple of pictures of the only visible green roof on the South Bank. it is looking a little like a brown roof at the moment, however the other day there was quite a bit of birds foot trefoil in flower so a handy little snack for a foraging bee.
the roof is on the south side of the Thames at Tower Bridge to the West. When they were building the big new development, which includes the GLA building we did try and get a load of big green roofs on the commercial buildings but to no avail. They would be really good bee foraging. However that was way back in 2000 and there are plenty of green roofs being installed in London and elsewhere in the UK. In fact since 2004 thre has been over 320,00m2 of green roofs installed in London alone. That is equivalent to the area of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens and most of these are flower rich and a bees paradise.
