Bulgaria 1

BANSKO/TRIGARD
I was up at the crack of dawn. Went for a stroll around the local park in the mist. Too grim to see any birds amongst the trees. However in the nearby fields managed to see a lovely juvenile RB Shrike and a Nightingale.
Harry and Louis had to be raised from their beds with multiple knocks on their bedroom door.
Managed to convince that them the Trigard Gorge would be fun. Never told them that the main reason for going was it is reportedly the best place in Europe to see Wallcreepers! Hee Hee Hee – a birdwatching day and they didn’t even know it!!!
Well it took forever to get there. Bulgarian roads are being upgraded but where they are not it is like driving down tracks. Pot holes abound, carts make a London traffic jam a bliss.
However the Gorge was fantastic and so was the Devil’s Throat Cave. Too many flowers to mention though many typical green roof plants like trefoils, viper’s Bugloss, Mulleins and a whole bunch havent a glue what they were.
And of course the mythical Wallcreeper put in a glorious show. Even the boys were impressed. As they were with the Gorge and the Cave. Alpine Swift and Crag Martin swoop up the sides of the Gorge and at the Car Park numerous black redstarts filtted amongst the cars. Am sure they follow me around.
Whilst the boys indulged in more normal holiday activities like swimming in the hotel pool and being teenagers: ‘What was the swim like? OK but everyone kept staring at us!!!!” Teenage paranoia!, I managed to nip up to the mountain meadows and enjoyed a bit of peace away from Harry’s booming voice. 1/2 hr of watching Crossbills and Serins. And the tail of a nutcracker! 10 minutes I watched that tail and not once did the bloody bird deem to put in a face.
